PT Perikanan Indonesia Dives into the Vietnamese Market with Octopus Exports

PT Perikanan Indonesia, a notable entity within the ID FOOD Holding umbrella, is making waves in the seafood export market by branching out into Vietnam with its octopus products. This venture marks the company’s first foray into the Vietnamese market, famously nicknamed the Land of the Blue Dragon, introducing a fresh export pathway beyond its usual dealings.

Traditionally, the company has focused on channels to Japan, the United States, South Korea, Thailand, China, the Philippines, and Singapore, supplying a variety of fishery commodities. The move to include Vietnam in its export destinations underscores PT Perikanan Indonesia’s dedication to expanding its market reach and contributing to the government’s objective to boost fishery product exports, while promoting inclusive fishing practices.

Sigit Muhartono, the President Director of PT Perikanan Indonesia, expressed the organization’s ambition to be a leading force in the fishing trade between Indonesia and Vietnam. This initiative aims to tap into new market sectors with the debut octopus export, asserting the confidence in the product’s appeal in new markets.

Between January to May 2024, the company has successfully delivered 75.3 tons of octopus not only to Vietnam but also to Japan, showcasing the product as a prime selection of PT Perikanan Indonesia following thorough quality assessments. The Octopus Cyanea Gray variety sent off to these countries comes directly from the Simeulue branch in Aceh, a trusted source to the Japanese market since 2021, now extending its reach to Vietnam in 2024.

The Simeulue branch leverages a One Day Fishing approach with local fishermen. This practice ensures that octopuses caught in the morning are processed by the afternoon, enhancing the freshness and quality of the final product destined for international markets.

In addition to octopus, PT Perikanan Indonesia has also broadened its export spectrum to include Tuna Loin commodities to Singapore, produced by the PT Perikanan Indonesia Bitung Branch in North Sulawesi. This particular export is aimed at fulfilling the demands of Kida Food Trading, a food company in Singapore. The Tuna Loin, characterized by a process of freezing, cleaning, and meticulous preparation, showcases the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality products beyond its borders.

This strategic expansion into new markets like Vietnam not only strengthens Indonesia’s position in the global seafood industry but also highlights the variety and quality of Indonesian marine commodities on the world stage.
