BUMI Group Celebrates 9 Awards for Community and Sustainable Village Development

In a significant achievement that underscores its commitment to community development and sustainability, PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI), through its business units PT Arutmin Indonesia and PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), has been honored with top awards at the 2024 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Village Development (SVD) Awards event. This prestigious recognition was handed over by Vice President Ma’ruf Amin and organized by the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration.

Arutmin Indonesia earned five Gold category awards across its entire operational regions for various impactful programs. These included the Wanda Permata program at the Asamasam mine, empowering women in the community, and the Pemberdayaan Kokimantera at the Kintap mine, fostering economic equality and sustainability in village economies. Other notable initiatives include the BUM Desa Bersama Bintang Lima program at the Satui mine, the Pusat Pelatihan Sentra PPM Kasturi at the Batulicin mine, and the Pengembangan Potensi Ekonomi program at the Senakin mine, all aimed at promoting community-based economic development towards achieving self-sufficient villages.

KPC also distinguished itself by receiving two Gold awards, one Silver, and one Excellent. Recognitions were for initiatives like promoting leadership among women in Sangatta Utara, diversifying economic activities in village communities for environmental conservation, enhancing service digitalization for improved performance of village enterprises in Tepian Makmur, Rantau Pulung, and honoring a local hero, Rahmad Hidayat, for his efforts in optimizing village enterprise operations through youth-led projects.

Adika Nuraga Bakrie, President Director of BUMI, expressed pride in these achievements, emphasizing the company’s continuous efforts to add value and accelerate the economic development of the communities and environments they operate in. He highlighted that all CSR programs undertaken are aligned with the company’s priorities in supporting the government’s development activities.

This year’s event saw participation from 100 companies across various sectors, including state-owned enterprises (SOEs), private sector entities, and village companies, initiated by the Indonesia Social Sustainability Forum (ISSF) and the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration. The awards aim to recognize companies dedicated to developing and enhancing the surrounding villages through their operations.

The evaluation process involved submitting documents on community development and empowerment programs undertaken by the companies, followed by document verification, eligibility assessment, and an online presentation to a judging panel. Finally, verified programs that met the judging criteria underwent field verification in March 2024, including visits to Arutmin and KPC mining sites.

These accolades reflect BUMI Group’s leadership and dedication towards fostering sustainable community development and enhancing living standards in Indonesia, reinforcing its position as a responsible entity in the commodities market.
